Architectural Spaces

The Pompidou Centre, one of the most visited attractions in Paris, is a very unique architectural space. The building is large, colourful and has an industrial feel as it’s structural elements are exposed allowing the public to see how it functions. The heating, water, electrical and gas system pipes, colour coded blue, green and yellow, are clearly visible from the outside, giving an in-side-out feel to the building. All other service sections such as elevators, stairs and escalators are also on the outside of the building and are colour coded in red. The building was thought up by President Georges Pompidou who wanted to create an original cultural institution in the heart of Paris completely focused on modern and contemporary creation. It was designed to provide more space inside for large white exhibition and gallery spaces with concrete flooring contrasting from the bold multicoloured outside.
